Sietar NL webinar: Virtual Teams Across Cultures
Remote work has become a norm during the pandemic, but many people like me have focused on what it means to work virtually for many years. In particular, I investigated the question: How do geographic distance and cultural diversity impact how people think, feel and act on virtual teams? As virtual work is different than co-located work, and often seems counter-intuitive, I would like to share my findings with the Sietar community.
During the webinar, I will explain how configuration impacts team collaboration; the three ways cultural diversity impacts virtual teams; and the four leadership levers for remote teams.
Hopefully we can have an interactive conversation, as I would in particular like to explore cultural competence with the Sietar community – how can we support virtual workers to develop cultural competence while they work in their own countries. Even before the pandemic, remote work was increasing with limited travel budgets, so how can colleagues learn about each other’s countries? Participants will leave the webinar with a new understanding of virtual leadership and teams, as well as ideas on how to support their clients in the future.

About the host Teresa Sigillito Hollema:
“I focus on cultural competence, team development and virtual working. I am author of the book Virtual Teams Across Cultures (2020). To write the book, I referenced my own practice, interviews and academic research. I developed 3 ways cultural diversity impacts virtual teams and wonder how to support people to develop cultural competence while staying in their own country.”
